Steven Schaffer

Steven Schaffer, 70, of Algona, passed away on Monday February 27, 2023 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.  Funeral services were 11 am Monday at First Lutheran Church in Algona, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard, the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90 and the VFW Post #2541 of Algona.  Visitation was 3-6 pm Sunday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.  

     Steven Robert Schaffer, the son of Robert and Violet (Smith) Schaffer, was born on February 14, 1953 in Algona, Iowa.  He graduated from Clarion High School in 1971. On February 21, 1976 Steve was united in marriage with Cindy Lehman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  Steve served in the U.S. Army and later the Iowa Army National Guard.  He worked 40 years at Snap-On Tools, retiring in 2017.   

     Family was the most important thing to Steve.  He loved his grandkids, spending time with them, traveling and teaching them.  Steve was always one to help family and friends.  He was always there and didn’t ask for anything in return. 

     Left to cherish Steve’s memory is his wife of 47 years, Cindy; sons, Gary (Stacy) Schaffer of Algona and Alex Schaffer of Algona; grandchildren, Wyatt, Aubrey and Ashlynn Schaffer; mother, Violet Pergande of Clarion; brothers, Jim (Cindy) Schaffer, Bobby (Ronda) Schaffer and Rick (Susan Sherman) Schaffer all of Clarion; and sisters, Shari (Rich) Lewellyn of Cedar Falls and Chris (Danny) Thompson of Goldfield. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Steven’s family.
