Wrestling team is district champs, sends six to state

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team will be represented by six wrestlers following the Class 2A District tournament last Saturday at Humboldt. The Cowboys took the team title with 131 points, followed in the top five by Webster City with 122, Ballard with 84, Pocahontas Area/L-M with 45 and Southeast Valley with 39.

Getting their tickets punched for Des Moines were champions Remington Hanson (113) and Tanner Abbas (145), along with second-place finishers Tyler Stein (106, Keaton Wilson (120), Reed Abbas (138) and Spencer Trenary (285).

"We only had one senior make it that year, and we came home with the state duals title," said Coach Dan Gabrielson. "With all that said, we were still able to win the team title in arguably the best district in the state. Besides six qualifiers, and three seniors getting third, it was freshman Allen sealing the team title with a pin for third place over a Webster City opponent! We are looking for a big crowd of home fans to help us in our last week of the season!”
