Twelve participate in Brushy Creek Honor Flight

One day. Five memorials, a stop at the Arlington National Cemetery and a tour of Washington D.C.

More than a hundred veterans, a dozen of those from Wright County, along with their guardians, support personnel and other volunteers participated in the ninth Brushy Creek Honor Flight to D.C. on Sept. 6, 2014.

Though there was much to see and not a whole lot of time, Joe Umthun, of Clarion who served in World War II from 1944-1946, said the trip is something he will never forget.

“It’s indescribable,” he said. Despite having traveled to D.C. a couple times to visit his daughter and son-in-law, Umthun had never seen the memorials or visited the Arlington National Cemetery.
