Steve Schutt remembered at Heartland Museum

In March this year, Clarionites were saddened to hear of the passing of Steven Schutt. Schutt had been an art teacher, an antiques dealer, and a craftsman known not only for his teddy bear designs, but also for bringing the Teddy Bear Reunion convention to Clarion from 1990-2005.

On September 14, the Heartland Museum made a special remembrance for Schutt by dedicating their Teddy Bear Musuem to him. Almost 30 people came for the ribbon cutting, and also spent time celebrating Schutt, a creative spirit who appreciated beauty and history, a person who “made things happen.”

“Steve was the most talented person I think I’ve ever met,” said Paula Erickson, a friend of Steve’s.

According to Mary Tesdahl, museum board co-president, Schutt came up with the idea to organize the museum with streetscapes and spent hours drawing their outlines for construction on the floor in chalk, and also designing the building facades. He also donated materials and money to the museum, which wouldn’t be what it is today without him.
