Pieces in Place for Prestage opening

From early campaigning to bring Prestage to Wright County, to current goings-on with the company and related developments in the city of Eagle Grove, one person has been involved in it all: Bryce Davis, former economic development director for the county and current administrator for the city of Eagle Grove.

Though he is no longer employed by the county, he’s still involved the Prestage economic development agreement and a few other county projects, and is the go-to source for information on the development.

On Monday night, Davis presented some of that information to visitors to the Clarion Public Library in an AAUW-sponsored event. The update included information on the plant's progress.

The Prestage plant currently has 10 employees, one a human resources manager who will guide hiring of upper and middle management through the spring and summer. Production workers will be hired in September and October, one month before the plant opens, bringing the Prestage workforce to at least 1,000 employees.

With such a major industry coming into the area, other, related businesses are expected to come along. Currently, Wright County Economic Development and Davis are working on introducing an industrial park on Highway 17 next to the Prestage development.

For information on the plant and Davis's take on the local housing situation, see the March 29 edition of the Monitor.
