Nerem signs letter of intent

Haley Nerem has signed a letter of intent to attend Grand View University and play volleyball for the Vikings. Nerem has been both a First Team and Third Team All-NCC selection during her time with the Cowgirls, and has accumulated a 96 percent career serving percentage with 641 career kills and 675 career digs. She was a big reason why the team made it to the state volleyball tournament last fall. “When we went to visit them, my first impression was that it was just a very nice campus,” said Nerem. “The students and staff were very friendly. The University matched a lot of what I was looking for. It’s a smaller, private school with smaller class sizes. It’s of Lutheran heritage, and I was baptized and confirmed Lutheran so that fit well for me. Coach Tina Carter was awesome.” Nerem believes that you don’t get a winning record like that unless your team is like a family, which was very important to her and her family. “My Cowgirl volleyball team and coaches were a family,” said Nerem. “We prayer together and treated each other with respect, and that’s a big part of how we made it to state. I will miss my teammates very much.” She plans on focusing on a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Theatre Arts, or possibly making it a double major. “They also have a large variety of scholarship opportunities, and a very high placement percentage of 98-99 percent,” said Nerem. “All the stars lined up perfectly! Special thanks to my high school coach Katrina Terhark for always believing in me and pushing me to be my best, and of course my parents (David & Heather Nerem), siblings, friends, teachers, the community and fans for all the support!”
