Local church works together to give the gift of warmth this winter

The winter and holiday seasons often mark a time of year where people try to give back. There are no shortages of great causes in the area that seek donations around this time. However, areas of need are not always obvious. Luckily, there are those in our community working quietly to help, like the folks at the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield.

The members of the Goldfield Presbyterian Church have long been a charitable bunch. One of the ways the church members have worked to give over the years is by making hats. Several ladies in the church work to make hats for a variety of causes. Secretary Diane Kraft explained that the church supports the Christian Health Service Corps. organization and the McCurry family from the area that works in Africa in support of that mission. When Dr. Ashley McCurry told the church that African babies could use hats, members such as Sonna Johnson, Syl Funnell, Jayne Schipull, and Sheri Nielsen got some yarn and went to work.  They have since sent hundreds of hats to Africa.
