Wright County represented well at the State Fair this year, with more than a dozen individuals placing in livestock and crafting categories. One husband and wife team from Goldfield distinguished themselves with multiple honors in two different areas: Roy and Jodi Kraft, with Roy taking several ribbons in the apiary (beekeeping) competition, and Jodi bringing home two ribbons and an honor in quilting.

The honors Jodi earned were third place for a felted wool item in the Surface Embroidery category; third place for a quilt embroidered by hand in the combination quilts category; and honorable mention in the team category for pieced quilts for other than traditional patterns.

Roy placed in five honey-related categories at the Fair: fifth place in the observation hive, first place for the “six cut comb in a hard plastic box,” sixth in white extracted honey, first in combination strained and chunk honey, and third in plastic bears.
