Humboldt takes 78-77 win over Cowboys in 3-overtime thriller

Last Tuesday night in Clarion, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity Cowboy basketball teamed hooked up with the Humboldt Wildcats in what would be a memorable game. The two evenly matched teams couldn’t settle anything after four periods of regulation as the score was knotted at 55-55. It would end up taking three overtimes to decide a winner, and unfortunately it wasn’t the home team. Humboldt would leave town with a 78-77 victory.

Sam Urness drained 27 points, including two treys, before fouling out. Rhett Darland fired in 19 points, heaving no less than six shots in from downtown. Will Weidemann managed 11 points. Ryan Darland scored six points, Chase Harker five points, Zach Leist four points, Brendon Boyd three points on a trey and Noah Maxheimer two points. Leist did a tremendous job on the boards in hauling in 20 rebounds, while Weidemann posted a double-double by snagging 11 balls off the glass. Harker got his hands on six caroms, Urness five, Ryan three and Rhett two. Derek Conlon and Maxheimer both finished with one rebound each.

Urness dished the ball for six assists, with Conlon making three and Rhett two. Maxheimer, Harker and Leist all had one assist each. Urness and Weidemann both had two steals each, with Boyd and Rhett getting one apiece. Both Harker and Leist made a blocked shot.
