Hagie hosts engineering event for young women

February 17-23 is Engineers Week! The National Society of Professional Engineers website explains that the week is “dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.” One local Clarion company that houses many engineers, Hagie Manufacturing, a majority-owned joint venture with John Deere, dedicated one day of this big week to a group that they hope can learn about engineering early in life and consider it later: young women.

On Monday, around 70 girls got the opportunity to spend a fun and educational day at Hagie for its “Introduce a Young Woman to Engineering” event. This was the third year for the special event. Most of the girls were seventh and eighth graders from Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School. There were also a few older girls and some others from out of town that came with parents who are Hagie employees.
