Dave Mechem has made quite a leap in the last few decades from the cornfields of Iowa to the bright lights of Hollywood and beyond. Mechem grew up in Clarion but followed his calling elsewhere in the film industry. Years later, he is an executive producer, and particularly proud his current film “Unbroken: Path to Redemption” that opened in wide release last week.

Mechem grew up in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1980. He stayed in the area for college at the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Communication/Film. He became involved in the home entertainment business after college, which soon took him far from home. He moved to southern California in 1989. In California, Mechem began working for major movie studios. He explains, “I worked for Universal Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment where I got more in involved in faith-based films under their Affirm Films banner.” Four years later, Mechem joined the WTA Group which specializes in faith-based films.
