Cross country season ends at 2A state qualifier

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL cross country teams competed last Thursday at a 2A state qualifying meet at Lake City. Shenandoah won the girls team title with 60 points, followed in the top three by Okoboji with 64 and Aplington-Parkersburg with 95. The Cowgirls were eighth with 208 points.

On the boys side, Sheldon took the team title with 67 points followed closely by Okoboji with 72 points and Aplington-Parkersburg with 78 points. The Cowboys were fourth with 144 points, only one spot out of qualifying as a team.

Hayden Klaver led the way at 18th in 18:43.60. He was followed by Alex Rosenbaum at 20th in 18:53.13; Luke Rapp at 28th in 19:34.43; Max Powers at 33rd in 19:40.95; Kaeden Langfitt at 45th in 20:07.99; Ben Rapp at 61st in 20:44.02 and Caleb Krueger at 76th in 22:10.36.

“To my knowledge, fourth is possibly the best we’ve ever done as a team, certainly since I’ve been coaching them,” said Haupt. “Hayden and Alex have been the backbone of our program since seventh grade. These two seniors have pounded the pavement year-round in display of their dedication. "
