Cowgirls volleyball sweeps Gaels in three, go 4-1 at Forest City

The seventh ranked (2A) Cowgirl volleyball team came out ready to play and running on all cylinders last Thursday night in hosting St. Edmond, beating the Gaels in three straight by scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-15.

The first set saw them build on an early lead with Kendall Lienemann’s kill from her left side spot making it 17-4. A Gael hit past the back line made it 18-4, followed by an official’s net call giving them another point. The Gaels then reeled off three straight before another hit past the back line gave the home team a 20-7 lead. A bit later, a Morgan Middleton smash from the left side made it 22-8. She was not through in that set, as the junior made two of the final three points for the 1-0 match lead.

The Cowgirls were up 16-6 in set two when Lienemann put a ball over that the visitors couldn’t handle followed by a powerful Lienemann slam on the next serve. A double block put the ball back to the Gaels, who couldn’t return it for a 19-6 advantage. A bit later, a tap over by Summer Traub made it 21-7. With Lienemann now serving, two of her serves back to back saw the Gaels fail to return serve to take the score to 23-7. A Traub kill from the middle made for set point, followed by the Gaels again having trouble getting control of the ball as the home team took a commanding 2-0 advantage.

Jadyn Jondle served her team to a 21-13 lead in set three, with Middleton then making a nice tap over for another point. The Gaels scored two in a row before Middleton stopped the momentum with a hard smash to inch the team closer at 23-15. Another Middleton kill couldn’t be returned, and #17 then finished the night off with another winner.
