Cowgirls represented in two events at state track

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team competed at a Class 2A qualifying meet (Girls Regional/Boys District) last Thursday at Garner. A strong Pocahontas Area/Laurens-Marathon team took the title with 137 points, with Osage nipped at their heels the whole way in second with 132 points. The rest finished like this: Central Springs 92, Emmetsburg 73, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 60.5, Estherville-Lincoln Central 55, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 47, Forest City 43, Eagle Grove 31.5, South Hamilton 31, Clear Lake 24 and Belmond-Klemme 15.

Courtney Harle punched her ticket individually for Drake Stadium, finishing third but advancing on based on her time (13.11). Also moving on is the 4x2 relay of Harle, Ana and Meleah Johnson and Kenna Kruger after they finished second in 1:50.56.

“The events I thought would be good were not quite enough, and what I thought wouldn’t did better than I expected,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “The 4x2 was fourth on the chart going in, and I didn’t think we would be any higher than that. I also didn’t think we could drop four seconds and run a 1:50. It was a nice surprise.”
