Cowgirls picked up 45-39 win over Rockford

In a home game last Saturday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team stopped a short losing streak with a 45-39 non-conference win over Rockford. It was 28-15 Cowgirls at the break. “I liked our first half, we took it to them right from the start,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We just didn’t put it away in the second half. We let them hang around, and got away from the things that got us there.”

Raven Kinnetz netted 15 points with a pair of three’s, while Courtney Harle tossed in 12 points on 6 of 11 field goals. Megan Askelsen scored five points, Vanessa Kolb four points and Lauren Odland three points. Mariah Frye, Quinn Hansch and Emily Kapka all finished at two points apiece. Kinnetz and Harle also shared in the bulk of board work with seven rebounds each. Kolb added five to the total. Kinnetz led with three assists, followed by Frye, Harle, Kolb and Kapka all at two each. Harle was a demon on defense with 12 steals. Kinnetz had six and Kapka five. Harle also had a blocked shot.

“We just have to be patient, relax and wait for the better shot,” said Kakacek. “They pressured us, so we’ve got to be able to handle the press.”
