Cowgirls lose opener 58-46 to West Hancock

After falling behind 12-4 to West Hancock in their season opener last Tuesday in Britt, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls starting finding their rhythm and outscored the Eagles 12 points to five to make it 29-20 at the break. They were outscored again by five points thru the third quarter, and spent the rest of the night playing from behind in a 58-46 loss.

“We started out slow and unsure in just getting used to the pace and our understanding of the game,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We played aggressive, but a little out of control, which put us in foul trouble from the start. The Eagles shot 19 free throws in the first half, which was close to half of their points. Our half-court defense is tough, and the Eagles struggled against the pressure we put on them. We just made too many mistakes early to keep up with a good team like West Hancock.”
