Cowgirls lose close game to Pocahontas Area

On Monday, January 5, in a home game, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls team lost a close 40-36 game to Pocahontas Area. The Indians held a slim 20-15 halftime advantage, with the Cowgirls having a good third quarter in making it 27-26 PAC after three quarters were played.

“We started slow and played like a team that was not ready to play,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “They jumped out on their press and our girls did not handle the pressure well. After getting down 16-2, we did a good job of getting back into the game by halftime. We still had some issue with shooting, but our defense stepped up and got us back into it. The Cowgirls fought hard and played well after that first quarter. I liked our effort, and the shots we were getting offensively, we just couldn’t get the ball to go through the hoop. We missed a lot of open shots that I believe we would make most nights. When we have an off night shooting, we need our defense to step up. When you get down by 14 to start and don’t shoot well, it makes it hard to get a win.”
