Cowgirls host Algona, travel to play St. Edmond

On Monday, June 18, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team hosted Algona and lost 13-0 to the Bulldogs. Courtney Harle smacked a double, with Faith Nelson getting two singles and Megan Askelsen one for the only hits on the night. Harle stole two bases as well. Gabby Hackley took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits over four innings. Alaina Friesleben also saw time in the circle.

On Friday, the red and black traveled to Rogers Park to play the host Gaels of St. Edmond. The home team took a 12-2 victory, with the Cowgirls avoiding the shutout with a two-run fifth inning. Harle led off at the top of the order by reaching on an error, and would later cross the dish of Vanessa Kolb. Two batters later, Emily Kapka drove in Kolb. Kapka finished with two hits in two trips to the plate.

Kolb, Nelson, Kapka and Quinn Hansch all stole a bag, with Kolb showing good patience in drawing two walks. Harle, Kapka and Kendall Lienemann all managed one free pass to first each. Friesleben took the loss, giving up four earned on six hits.

The team is now 3-13 overall, and finishes the season schedule by going to Webster City this Thursday.
