Cowgirls end NCC schedule with 54-39 win over Bulldogs

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball were able to find the scoring to go with a good defensive effort to defeat Hampton-Dumont last Tuesday 54-39 to wrap up the conference schedule. They took a commanding 25-12 lead into the locker room and kept a safe margin from there in taking their third straight win entering regional play.

Three Cowgirls reached double-digit scoring, led by Courtney Harle banging home 15 points on 6 of 10 from the field. Raven Kinnetz bombed in three treys for 11 total points, while Morgan Middleton also added 11 counters on a red hot 5 of 5 from the field. Vanessa Kolb scored five points, Quinn Hansch four points and Maya Jackson, Mariah Frye, Megan Askelsen and Emily Kapka all two points each. Kinnetz and Middleton shared the top spot in board duty with six rebounds each. Harle and Kolb managed three each, with Hansch and Askelsen grabbing two apiece. Jackson, Frye and Kapka all finished with one each.

“We made them shoot out of their range,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We were looking to attack them. It was nice to have balanced scoring, with three of them in doubles. A lot of them contribute to this win. We never let up on offense, and stepped up on defense. We just needed to keep building on the lead, and we did that.”
