Cowgirl track & field team finishes sixth at NCC meet

Humboldt unseated multi-time champion Algona to win the North Central Conference track & field meet last Thursday at Iowa Falls. The Wildcats compiled 181.33 points, with the Bulldogs at 158.33 for second. The rest of the varsity teams finished like this: Hampton-Dumont 93.5, Iowa Falls-Alden 89, Webster City 71.33, C-G-D 55.5, St. Edmond 46 and Clear Lake 23.

The top Cowgirl finish was a second place in the shuttle hurdle relay. The foursome of Ana Johnson, Jordyn Jondle, Maya Jackson and Megan Zwiefel on anchor toured the track in 1:12.96. The 4x2 made it home in 1:55.18 for third place in that event. That relay was made up of Ana, Meleah Johnson, Kenna Kruger and Courtney Harle. The 4x1 and 4x8 were both fourth, along with Harle in the 100-meter dash. Harle was fifth in the high jump, with Mikayla Hennigar reaching that same final spot in the discus. The distance medley relay also crossed in fifth.

“The shuttle was a little faster, but not with their fastest time,” said Harker. “The 4x2 was third, but still dropped a couple spots on the state chart. I felt the 4x8 (4th) didn’t look too bad, and even though Courtney (Harle) was fourth in the 100 dash she had a bad start. I also thought we would be faster in the 4x1 (4th). Ana was sixth and Megan eighth in the 100 highs, but there were some good hurdlers there.”
