Cowgirl track & field has busy week

On Friday, April 27, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team took part in the Ballard Invitational. Southeast Valley won class B with 141 points, followed by the Cowgirls with 127 points. After them came Collins-Maxwell with 97, South Hamilton and Ogden with 80 each and Madrid with 52.

The ladies brought home several medals, taking gold in the distance med and 4x2 along with individual first place finishes from Meleah Johnson (long jump) and Vanessa Kolb (800).

“We ran a lot better overall,” stated head coach Monty Harker. “However, it was terribly windy so we only had a few faster times. We did get second as a team so that was good.” He felt his jumpers did well in the field event portion. “Courtney did well, and both Meleah and Natalie had personal bests (PB). It was Natalie’s first time this year.”

He also liked a few other performances. “Angela (Castro) ran one of her best times to lead the distance med, and the 4x2 ran their fastest time of the year,” said Harker. “Vanessa had a gutty performance in winning that race.”
