Cowgirl track and field in busy week with three meets

Last Tuesday in Garner, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track & field team took part in the Cardinal Relays. Central Springs took the team title with 145 points, followed by: Hampton-Dumont 128, G-H/V 113.5, C-G-D 96.5, Forest City 80, Eagle Grove 79, Clear Lake 55 and Belmond-Klemme 29.5.

On Thursday in Webster City, the team took fourth in the final varsity standings which were led by Algona with 155 points. Following the Bulldogs were: Webster City 102, AGWSR 95, C-G-D 78, Iowa Falls-Alden 59, Clear Lake 53 and Eagle Grove 44. Highlights for the red and black included a win by the 4x2 of Ana and Meleah Johnson, Kruger and Harle in 1:54.63. Hennigar (discus) and the 4x1 relay both crossed in second place, while Harle (high jump), Nelson (discus), Hennigar (shot), Ana (100 highs), Jackson (400 lows) and the shuttle foursome all took third.

On Friday in Belmond, the team took third at the Bronco Relays. West Hancock was champion with 102 points, followed by: Hampton-Dumont 94, C-G-D 83, Lake Mills 69 and Belmond-Klemme 39. Hennigar kept up her hot streak with a win in the discus (100’ 7”), with Nelson again doing well in finishing second at 97’ 10”. They were third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put. Vanessa Kolb shined by taking the 800 (2:41.52), with the 4x2 also winning their event. The shuttle hurdle, distance medley and 4x4 all gave strong efforts in finishing second in each of those events.
