Cowgirl softball team can't find win column

Last Monday at Iowa Falls, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team lost a tight 2-0 game to the Iowa Falls-Alden. The Cadets plated their two runs in the third, and made them stand up from there. The Cowgirls could only muster a base hit each by Vanessa Kolb, Emily Kapka and Emma Schluttenhofer. Gabby Hackley allowed no earned runs on a four-hitter with just one walk and three K’s.

On Tuesday they traveled to Belmond and played much more competitively in a 10-7 loss to the Broncos. Alaina Friesleben walked to first in the second inning, followed by Hannah Tew doing the same only to be thrown out trying for second. A fielders choice put Jadyn Jondle on base, followed by Kendall Lienemann getting hit by a pitch to advance. Friesleben, Jondle and Lienemann all came home via errors and a passed ball. Vanessa Kolb and Courtney Harle would also score in much the same way before the inning was over. In the seventh, Harle scored again with Hansch driven in by Schluttenhofer.

Schluttenhofer and Jondle were both 2 for 4, with Hansch getting the only other base hit. Friesleben took the loss in the circle, but allowed just one earned on three hits with eight walks and six K’s.
