Cowgirl softball earns another win 5-2 over Rockford

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team notched their fifth win of the season last Tuesday in a 5-2 home victory over Rockford. The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Vanessa Kolb reached on a walk then was pushed to second by a Paige Willey base hit. Kolb would then score on a passed ball and an error.

They plated three runs in the third inning, started by Kolb busting the ball to left of center for a three-bagger. Willey reached on a base hit to score her, with Emily Kapka advancing on a bunt. Faith Nelson then scored Willey, with Courtney Harle later driving in Kapka. Megan Askelsen scored in the fifth on an over throw.

Four ladies swung strong bats in this one. Willey was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kolb was 2 for 3 with the triple and two runs scored. Kapka was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Harle 2 for 3 with an RBI. Askelsen and Konvalinka both had a base hit each, with Megan also crossing the dish once. Willey, Kapka and Harle all swiped a base, with Kolb and Konvalinka each taking a free pass to first.
