Cowgirl golfers defeat two NCC teams in recent meet

Last Tuesday at Oakridge, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls varsity golf team defeated Southeast Webster 204-230 in a non-conference meet. Ashley Keller was medalist with a 50, and teammate Shanee Tate the runner-up with an identical 50 score. Other counted scores were submitted by Kaylee Smith and Cassie Hanson with identical 52 totals. Other rounds were played by Cassy Mendoza (56) and Paeten Schultz (57).

“The weather was perfect, but we did not play our best as a team,” stated head coach Dan Smith. “We are starting to settle in as a team that is capable of shooting around 200 consistently. Ashley has been playing very well, and took the medalist with the lowest score on the highest handicap hole. Cassy got her first start in a varsity meet and came through with a 56.”

There was no JV meet, but the Cowgirl JV did play a round against the three JV girls for Southeast Webster. JV scores were: Meghan Geary 56, Taylor Hagie 63, Alex Keller 70, Madison Kubly 71, Phoebe Sanders 71 and Katie Haberman 75.

“Meghan took medalist for the JV,” said coach Smith. “We are excited to have 6-8 girls shooting in the 50’s or lower consistently. The season is short, but there are still plenty of meets to find out if we are for real and how low we can go. Every meet we know that all six varsity girls have a chance to count. That’s a nice bonus to have. I look for our number 4,5 and 6 girls to keep battling for those scores. I’m proud of our kids regardless of their score, and am having an enjoyable season.”
