Cowgirl golfers defeat two conference teams

In a tri-meet last Friday at Hampton, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls defeated both Hampton-Dumont and Iowa Falls-Alden in conference play. The Cowgirls finished with 231, followed by the Bulldogs at 241 and the Cadets at 256. This evened their conference mark to 2-2, and makes them 6-3 overall for the season.

Madison Wilcox of the Cadets was medalist with a 50, followed by Paeten Schultz of the Cowgirls who fired a 54 total. She was followed with counting cards by Cassy Mendoza at 57, Taylor Hagie at 59 and Emma Konvalinka at 61. Other rounds were played by Karlie Sellner with 68 and Hannah Tew with 76.

“The weather was cool and windy, and the course was challenging,” stated coach Dan Smith. “Hampton was a par 37, because they only have one par three to go with two par five holes. Traditionally, the course has not been good to our players and has been difficult to score well on.... Many of the girls had a few battles with trees, and had to punch out for their next shot. Having said all that, I was pleased with their overall mindset and attitude."
