Cowboys try hard to get back in win column

Last Monday June 11, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team lost a 16-4 home contest to Humboldt. The visiting Wildcats used a big nine-run ninth to put it away.

Reed Abbas went 2 for 3 including a double in driving in two of the runs. He also scored once. Jaace Weidemann doubled in his only contact, while Bryce Tegtmeyer and Will Weidemann each had a base hit with Will having an RBI. Zach Martin, Tanner Abbas and Tegtmeyer all crossed the dish once each. Martin, T. Abbas and R. Abbas all stole a base each, with Martin, T. Abbas, Tegtmeyer, Caleb Krueger, Tyler Stein and Kain Nelson all drawing a walk each.

“We played six solid innings, then had a rough seventh,” stated head skipper Nick Willwerth. “We jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then our bats got quiet. Reed swung it well and had a hand in three of our four runs offensively. He’s doing a great job coming in every day and working to refine his wwing and approach at the plate. We’re doing a great job of striking first and being aggressive early, but we have to stay aggressive and be able to make adjustments at the plate as the game progresses. We can’t be satisfied with taking a lead early, we need to sustain that intensity for a full seven.”
