Cowboys have rough week, drop three games

Last Tuesday in a home contest, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team dropped an 81-67 game to Clear Lake. The Lions were up 47-30 at the break.

Three players finished in double figures, led by Sam Urness with 20 points including 6 of 9 at the line. Rhett Darland scored 14 points with four treys, and Zach Martin 10 points. Will Weidemann had seven rebounds, with Urness grabbing four and Bryce Tegtmeyer and Darland three each. Urness had four assists and four steals to led those columns.

“We came into this game very confident, then the wheels came off,” stated head coach Brandon Lantzky. “The Lions are a very talented team. They have one of the best players in the state in Lester, and he is surrounded by a compliment of shooters and players that have length. Our defense did not match up to their shooters, and when Lester got going he was difficult to stop. We played to their speed, and played right into their hands.”

On Friday, it was an exciting game at Webster City that saw the Cowboys get close before falling 66-63.
