Cowboys fifth, Cowgirls sixth at B-K cross country meet

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL cross country teams ran at the Bronco Invitational last Tuesday hosted by Belmond-Klemme. For the girls varsity, Eagle Grove took the title with 54 points followed by: Forest City 70, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 83, Clear Lake 89, West Fork 96, Cowgirls 158, Lake Mills 181, Belmond-Klemme 197 and North Iowa 243.

“I’m 98 percent sure the course we ran on had to be a bit short distance-wise,” stated head coach Missy Springsteen-Haupt. “While I would love to think that our runners showed such drastic gains over last week, due to their hard work and much coaching, it’s not realistic based on everything I know about this sport. Having said that, the times might not be a completely accurate portrayal of where we are currently at in this point of the season. I’m happy because my runners were happy. Pretty much every single kid felt good after running that night.”

Stephanie Castro finished 29th in 22:35 to lead the way, with the rest finishing like this: Angela Castro in 31st at 22:41; Katherine Lopez in 32nd at 22:42; Raven Kinnetz in 34th at 22:58; Maya Jackson in 49th at 24:16; Kylie Klaver in 50th at 24:28 and Courtney Harle in 51st at 24:28.
