Cowboys basketball continue recent winning trend

Led by several players hitting in double figures, the Cowboy basketball team pulled out another two wins in three recent games.

Last Tuesday in Webster City, they played the Lynx into overtime before falling by a 59-55 score. The score was 26-26 at the break, with the two teams still deadlocked at 48-48 at the end of regulation. Three players finished in doubles, led by Christian Gaytan draining 26 points through the hoops. His total included three treys and 5 of 6 at the line. Coady Olson netted 14 points with two three’s and Connor State 10 points. Jaxon Carpenter rounded it out with five points.

State was a demon on the boards, securing 16 rebounds for a double-double. Gaytan grabbed eight rebounds, Olson three and both Carpenter and Aiden Harrington two each. Carpenter dished out four assists, with Gaytan, Olson and Cael Chase all chipping in one each. Gaytan, Olson and Gavin Wilson picked off one steal each, while State made two blocked shots.

They got back on the beam in a 62-38 win at Belmond-Klemme on Thursday. The Broncos led 25-23 at halftime, only to have the Cowboys outscore them 39 points to 13 over the second half.
