Cowboy track & field team goes to Garner, Story City

Last Tuesday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys track & field team competed at the Cardinal Relays hosted by Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. Lake Mills took the team title with 187 points, followed in order by: West Hancock 113, C-G-D 86, West Fork 76, North Union 73, North Butler 59, North Iowa 45, Belmond-Klemme 36, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 32 and Rockford 17.

The 4x4 grouping of Sam Urness, Clinton Miller, Jaace Weidemann and Kamren Jergenson broke the tape in 3:46.64 for first place. Ryan Watne (shot put), Alex Rosenbaum (3200) and Andrew Conlon (high jump) all finished runner-up in their events. The 4x2, 4x8 and distance med relays all took bronze finish placings.

At Story City on Thursday, it was North Polk the team champ with 174 points. They were followed in the top five by Woodward Academy with 147.5, Nevada with 137.5, St. Ansgar with 136 and Roland-Story with 131. The Cowboys tied for 14th with 37.

Highlights included the 4x8 and 4x2 relays both taking third. The 4x4 and the weightmen’s 4x1 were both fourth and Rosenbaum fifth in the 3200.
