Cowboy golfers complete busy week

Last Tuesday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys golf team traveled to Gowrie to take on Southeast Valley in a dual meet. The Cowboy varsity lost 153-173. Counting cards were returned to the clubhouse by Zach Martin with 40, Dalton Nesheim with 42, Brendon Boyd with 44 and both Will Weidemann and Sam Johnson with identical 47 scores (only one needed to count). Gage Fazio played a varsity round and scored a 53. The JV won over the Jaguars 187-208. JV scores were: Alec Martin 43, Dylan Jackson 47, Axel Roman 48, Trey Jackson 49, Matt Jacobsen 49 and Blake Jackson 50.

“With great weather, and a much easier venue, we expected to progress and we did,” stated head coach Pat O’Brien. “173 is our best so far. Southeast is a very good team with 36 and 37 as their top scores. We are progressing. I like my team, they work to get better and play with some intelligence. We are making better ‘team’ decisions and not just playing for the miracle shot. We will still need to advance our short game skills, but we will get there!”

On Friday, they took on both Hampton-Dumont and Iowa Falls-Alden in Hampton. The Bulldogs totaled a 191, with the Cowboys at 197 and the Cadets at 202. Counting cards were Zach Martin (47), Nesheim (48), Weidemann (49) and Johnson (53). Rounds were also played by Boyd (54) and Alec Martin (54).
