Cowboy basketball team wins another, 77-34 over Bulldogs

The Clarion-Goldfield- Dows varsity boys basketball team received big nights from both Rhett Darland and Will Weidemann in posting their fifth win of the season 77-34 last Friday in a home game with Hampton-Dumont. The Cowboys busted out of the chute strong in owning the first half to establish a nice 45-16 advantage at the break.

Rhett drained 21 points, including five bombs from downtown, while Weidemann netted 15 counters on a hot 7 of 9 from the field. Avery Harrington scored eight points, Zack Leist seven points, Ryan Darland six points on a pair of treys, Bryce Tegtmeyer five points and Marco Duran four points. Sam Urness added three points, with Zach Martin, Derek Conlon, Tyler Steiner and Riley State all scoring two points each as Lantzky went deep into his bench by the finish. Weidemann had a double-double in securing 12 boards, with Rhett, Tegtmeyer and Leist all getting five each. Martin got his mitts on three balls off the glass, with Urness, Ryan and State getting two each. Duran, Jacob O’Connor and Steiner all finished with one rebound each.

Urness, Ryan and Rhett all finished with three assists each. Leist and State had two apiece, while Martin, Conlon and Weidemann all finished with one each. The ball thieves had a busy night, as Duran managed to pick off three steals with Urness, Martin, O’Connor, Weidemann and Tegtmeyer all making two each. Ryan, Rhett and Avery all finished with one each. Harrington went vertical for three blocked shots, with O’Connor and Weidemann snagging one each.

“This was an overall team effort,” stated head coach Brandon Lantzky. “Our guards played well, our postplayers played well and we executed well against their zone."
