Cowboy basketball team defeats Broncos, Bulldogs

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys varsity basketball team defeated Belmond-Klemme 59-38 last Thursday in Belmond. They led the Broncos 24-13 at the half, then outscored them 21 points to just four over the third period to put it away.

Sam Urness netted 19 points on a hot 7 of 9 from the field. Rhett Darland canned 14 points, which included four bombs from three-point land. Avery Harrington scored six points, Riley State five points with a trey and Bryce Tegtmeyer and Alex Machuca four points each. Brier Boyd and Will Weidemann scored three points each and Max Powers one point. Harrington got his mitts on eight rebounds, with Tegtmeyer and Darland at seven rebounds each. Weidemann hauled in five caroms, State and Powers four each and Machuca and Blake Jackson three apiece. Zach Martin had two rebounds.

On Friday night in a home game, the red and black defeated Hampton-Dumont 78-37. They took control from the opening tip in fashioning a 49-20 halftime lead. Three players finished in double figures, led by Darland who pumped in 27 points with seven baskets from beyond the arc. Urness hit for 21 points and Harrington 10 points. Zach Martin was close with eight points, Will Weidemann added six points, Jaace Weidemann four points and Machuca two points.
