Clarion Hotel/Motel Tax Committee grants 3 awards this quarter

This quarter, the Clarion Hotel/Motel Tax Committee had approximately $15,260.00 in funds available for grants this quarter.  Since the first granting period in October of 2012, the Clarion Hotel/Motel Tax Committee has granted almost $174,000.00 to businesses and projects in Clarion that promote and encourage of tourism and convention business in the City of Clarion, Iowa.  Some of the funds from hotel/motel taxes are set aside for major tourism projects and parks projects. 

Grant applications are accepted quarterly in March, June, September and December with committee meetings held on the first Tuesdays of April, July, October and January.  The Mayor of Clarion nominates members of the committee which are then approved by the City Council.  Current members of the committee are Karen Weld, representing the Visitor’s Bureau; Greg Littlejohn, Clarion Chamber; Dan Odland, Heartland Museum; Dave Maxheimer, City Council; Barb Mussman, Kent Klemme, Rose Ann Baumer and Margaret (Peggy) O’Neill, citizens at large.
