Clarion area benefits by Simmons’ return to their hometown

            Clarion-Goldfield graduates Scott and Katy (Bordwell) Simmons moved back to Clarion about a year ago. The Clarion area is glad that they did! Katy is a CPA in the Brinton, Bordwell, & Johnson law firm. Scott serves as Clarion's City Recreation Director.
            Both are 2008 graduates of Buena Vista University. Katy's degree is in accounting, while Scott's is in exercise science and sports management. "We both got jobs in Austin, Minnesota shortly after," said Katy. "I was employed in a CPA firm and Scott was the director of YMCA there." They lived and worked in Austin for ten years.
            Katy served as a credit union auditor in the large firm where she worked. "I did that for three years until I transitioned to the tax division."
            Scott's main job at the Y was working with youth. "Lots of them were underprivileged kids," he said. "Helping some of them to stay on a good path was always a highlight for me." One of his successes was a young man who spent lots of hours at the YMCA and received an athletic scholarship to a Division 1 school in Utah. "Sometimes kids don't have the best family structure," Scott said. "Youth activities can make a big difference."
