CGD cross country competes at Algona

This past Monday, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL cross country team ran at the Algona Invitational. The Cowgirl team finishes were as follows: Kenzie Alberts 22nd in 21:16; Claire Davis 48th in 22:55; Shelby Engh 74th in 23:55; Angela Castro 79th in 24:48; Makayla Konopasek 96th in 25:57 and Kayleen Johnson 102nd in 26:48.

JV finish times were: Sid Magee in 26:25; Angela Garcia in 29:08; Myriam Carrillo in 29:15; Jade LaRue in 29:30; Payton Reiter in 30:56; Evelyn Tevelyn in 32:24 and Ami Martinez in 32:34.

Varsity boys finishes were: Max Powers 80th in 19:36.19; Alex Rosenbaum 82nd in 19:39.22; Luke Rapp 92nd in 10:01.59; Josh Portillo 104th in 20:39.13; Justin Portillo 107th in 20:53.44; Hayden Klaver 110th in 21:03.67 and Calen Rosenbaum 119th in 22:27.00. Jeremy Gangestad represented the team in the JV race, finishing 106th in 22:50.17.

“16 of our 22 high school runners posted season best times,” said head coach Missy Springsteen-Haupt. “The course is relatively flat, and the weather was overcast which kept in cool. Most of them stayed at their ideal pace and used it to their advantage. We need to get better at pacing as we head into our last few meets of the season.”
