CDTA dancers shine in competition

Over the last two months, the Clarion Dance & Tumbling Academy has been competing in several dance and talent competitions across Iowa. At each of three different competitions, CDTA dancers have taken high honors in various categories.

Competitions have included the BravO! regional on March 17 through 19; the Spotlight Dance Cup competition on April 9; and the Symposium Talent competition on April 29. The awards are particularly exciting, since many of the dancers haven’t gone to any sort of event like this. “It was new to the kids,” said Christina Johnson, CDTA director. “A lot of them haven’t competed before.”

At the Spotlight competition, Addy Howell, Ember Howell, and Hailey Gerard earned awards for their solo dances; Elizabeth Hodson and Natasha Johnson medaled for their duet; and the Pom group took Diamond overall—first place overall in the competition.

CDTA dancers also won the four different categories of the photogenic competition: petite (Adelynn Howell), junior (Elizabeth Hodson), teen (Karlee Lehman), and senior (Hailey Garrard). The photogenic competition is judged off of a submitted photo. All of CDTA’s photos were taken by Studio Portraits in Clarion.
