C-G-D principals report during board of education meeting

The three C-G-D principals were all on hand to report to the Board of Education this past Monday. Elementary Principal Tricia reported on the successful Veteran’s Day program. She heard several comments from community members about how well the kids did with their parts of the program. Both she and MS principal Steve Haberman discussed the benefits MTSS (multi-tiered system of support). This is a framework that many schools use to provide targeted support to students who need extra help to improve proficiency. Both principals are seeing benefits from screening students and providing extra support.

Haberman also talked about shadowing programs the middle school is using, including teachers observing other teachers. He noted how beneficial teachers find observing their peers and that schools today are instituting more open-door policies. There is also a program in the works where a teacher shadows a student all day to get a feel for what students experience. High school principal Sheila Hudson talked about the benefits of professional learning communities at the high school. These allow educators to work with each other within their own content area and across content areas and subjects. Hudson also noted that the new cell phone policy is working very well and she has observed that students are connecting more due to spending less time on their phones.
