C-G-D educators attend “intense” and “rigorous” institute but appreciate every minute

Four Clarion-Goldfield-Dows educators recently traveled across the country for a unique professional development opportunity. Mandi Middleton (elementary literacy coach), Jenny Smith (English language learner instructor), Allison Warnke (high school math), and Tricia Rosendahl (elementary principal) all attended a Standards Institute in Los Angeles from February 11th-15th. The women gave a glowing report of the rigorous and instructive experience. (This story is a follow-up to an introductory story on the topic that appeared in the January 31st issue).

The purpose of the institute was to focus on the education standards that govern curriculum in the K-12 setting. Standards are essentially the goals of what students should be achieving at different levels for different disciplines. Rosendahl explained that the C-G-D contingent hoped to “gain a deep understanding of the standards and why we have them.” All the women agreed that they accomplished that.
