C-G-D competes at Conference cross country meet

Cowgirls take fifth as a team, Alberts 12th

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls cross country team hopes that a fifth place team finish at last week’s NCC meet in Eagle Grove can be a springboard to launch them towards a possible bid to travel to Fort Dodge for the state meet a week from Saturday.

Humboldt (8th in 3A) used a nice second-place effort from Sam Larson to take team honors with 35 points. They were followed in the final standings by: Algona 74, Iowa Falls-Alden 103, Webster City 106, Clarion-Goldfield 155, Bishop Garrigan 156, Eagle Grove 170, Clear Lake 175, St. Edmond 181 and Hampton-Dumont 240.

Kenzie Alberts, who posted a fine 12th place finish in 17:03.67, paced the Cowgirl varsity. Following her were Samantha Nerem at 23rd in 17:56.70, Claire Davis at 33rd in 17:56.70, Maci Konopasek at 34th in 18:17.53 and Courtney Studer at 53rd in 19:34.16. Tiffany Christensen of Eagle Grove was the top individual finisher in 15:16.26.
