Baxter and Guth hold town hall meeting

As has been their custom for several years, state legislators Representative Terry Baxter (District 8, covering Hancock, Kossuth, and Wright Counties) and Senator Dennis Guth (District 4, covering Emmet, Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago, and Wright Counties) spent some time visiting with constituents in Wright County last week. Meetings were held in Eagle Grove, Belmond, and Clarion, with the Clarion meeting taking place at the Chamber depot at 10 a.m. on March 3.

Close to 20 Clarion community members attended the meeting at the Depot to hear an update on legislative happenings and ask questions.

Taxes and the economy were some of the chief topics. With a slow economy, problems have arisen as the state revenue estimating conference over-estimated the amount of funds that would come into the state. Baxter thought that situation would improve.

“Our revenue predictions are looking a little more solid,” he said. “The non-ag sectors are gaining steam in Iowa.”
